Fury as Stanley Johnson questions intelligence of British public

Can you spot a Tory election lie?

Take the Lie Detector

Stanley Johnson, father of Boris Johnson, has provoked a furious backlash after questioning the intelligence of the British public.

Appearing on the Victoria Derbyshire programme this morning, Johnson senior was presented with a comment from a viewer saying that his son was a liar – calling the Prime Minister “Pinocchio”.

In response, Stanley Johnson said: “That requires a degree of literacy which I don’t think the British public necessarily have.”

Asked what he meant by that comment, Johnson continued to say: “They couldn’t spell Pinocchio if they tried.”

Understandably, the backlash on social media has been fierce.

Labour campaigner Michael Chessum called it the “bigot-gate” moment of the campaign so far, while Owen Jones said it indicated that they (presumably the Tories), have a “burning contempt for working class people.”

The fact is that Boris Johnson is a liar, and the British public are intelligent enough to see it.

Prove that’s the case – take the quiz below…
