Farage still trying to rake in cash from Brexit Party supporters, despite saying party will be “mothballed”

Nigel Farage is still begging Brexit Party supporters to fund his political efforts, despite pausing the party’s operations.

In an email sent to party supporters this weekend, the party begged for donations, claiming money given to the party will help it ensure Boris Johnson delivers a “proper Brexit”.

It said: “The Brexit Party is not going away. We are the insurance policy. If the Prime Minister backslides on his promises we will be here to hold him to account and ensure we get the proper Brexit we voted for.

“For this reason, we need your support more than ever and encourage you to renew your registered support status for this year. With just £25 you can help us stand up for Britain’s independence, sovereignty, and future.”

This is strange, given previous statements issued by party leader Nigel Farage.

Last month, Farage said he would be mothballing the Brexit Party – meaning he would stop using it on a day-to-day basis, but would keep it ready in the background in case he wants to make another foray into front-line politics.

Speaking on ITV’s This Morning, he said: “What I’ll do now is put it [the Brexit Party] on care and maintenance, just in case they [the government] make a mess of it [Brexit].

“I’m not going to close it down”.

Why, then, it needs significant ongoing funding is unclear.

Regardless, we can think of a few better ways to spend £25 than giving pocket money to Nigel Farage.
