A brilliant viral video has shown why Boris Johnson’s NHS election pledges are totally misleading.
Produced by the campaign group Keep Our NHS Public, the video features multiple medical professionals taking apart the Prime Minister’s election promises.
The video points out that Johnson’s pledge to build 40 new hospitals is a fallacy. If you look at the small print, there’s only the funding in place to refurbish six.
The video also counters the PM’s pledge to invest “record amounts” in the NHS – highlighting that Johnson’s promise is actually £12bn less than stated, because he hasn’t adjusted his figures for inflation.
Speaking in the video, Dr Louise Irvine says: “That is deliberately misleading.”
What’s more, the medical professions also lay out the Tories’ abysmal record on healthcare over the past decade. They say that:
- Since 2010 we have lost 15,000 hospital beds, the equivalent of 30 district hospitals.
- There are fewer nurses per person than 10 years ago.
- We are 40,000 short of nurses and 10,000 short of doctors.
Boris Johnson is physically incapable of telling the truth about the NHS. Handing him the keys to Downing Street would risk one of Britain’s greatest institutions.
