Climate change protestors are planning to shut down Westminster for two weeks, Extinction Rebellion has announced.
Beginning on 7th October, the climate change group will occupy Westminster – blocking roads and protesting outside government departments.
Extinction Rebellion says that each government minister must take responsibility for their role in the current climate crisis, adding that politicians must face up to the reality that Brexit is distracting Westminster from more important issues, including climate change and homelessness.
The group is calling on the government to pledge to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025 (the UK’s current target is 2050).
In April, over 1,000 Extinction Rebellion protestors were arrested after blocking key sites around London. Round Two is set to begin in just a few weeks.
