Tens of thousands of coronavirus tests have been double-counted, government officials have admitted.
Tests which involve taking saliva and nasal samples from the same patient are being counted as two tests by the government, the Telegraph is reporting.
According to the paper, this inflates the daily testing figures by over 20%.
As Scram News readers will be aware, the government has been attempting to ramp up the UK’s coronavirus testing – first promising to conduct 100,000 tests a day by the end of April, and now aiming for 200,000 a day by the end of May.
The government managed to meet its April target, but only by changing the way tests are counted, to include tests that had been sent in the post but not completed. Since the end of April the government has repeatedly missed its 100,000 target.
And now, it seems these figures have also been arbitrarily inflated through double-counting.
The government claims it has been transparent during the coronavirus crisis. The evidence suggests otherwise.
