Former Brexit Party MEPs Martin Daubney and Michael Heaver have platformed a man who has appeared on a podcast with Tommy Robinson and has claimed recruiting Muslims to the British army could lead to a terrorist “infiltration” by ISIS.
Interviewing Richard Kemp on Brexit Bros – a cringeworthy new podcast produced by the two former MEPs – Heaver said that the retired army officer and Brexiteer was a “very interesting guy” and that it was “tremendous” to have him on the show.
But far from being “very interesting,” Kemp is a controversial figure who has consistently spouted unappetising views.
In 2017, he appeared on a podcast with far-right Islamophobe Tommy Robinson, calling for British citizens fighting for ISIS “to be killed”.
Writing for the Times, Kemp also said recruiting Muslims to the British army was “obsessive political correctness” that could lead to ISIS terrorists infiltrating the army.
The army veteran has also published articles against gender and ethnic diversity in the British army and said female soldiers are a “weak link” only present to serve feminism.
And his support of the death penalty on Robinson’s podcast was not just a flippant remark. In 2018, Kemp wrote an article for the Telegraph stating that Britain should reinstate the death penalty for terrorists.
And it doesn’t end there.
After the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017, Kemp also called for all foreign nationals on the government’s terrorism watch list to be deported.
Also in 2017, the Jewish News had to pay £20,000 in damages to former Tory chair Baroness Warsi, after a column written by Kemp suggested she excused the conduct of Islamic State.
Despite his views consistently causing massive backlash, Kemp has not decided to keep quiet.
Speaking at a widely protested (we can’t think why) University of Bristol Conservative event this January, he said “most Muslims are trained to hate Israel”.
Nevertheless, Heaver said that he would like Kemp to appear on the podcast again. We certainly won’t be tuning in.
