The Brexit Party have lost over £80,000 after sacrificing their £500 deposit in over 160 seats. Candidates lose their deposit if they fail to get 5% or more of the valid votes cast.
This marks the end of an embarrassing night for Nigel Farage, which saw the party struggle to make an impact with the electorate despite significant funding from a host of well-heeled backers.
The party won no seats whatsoever.
The average vote share of Farage’s party, in the constituencies they stood candidates, was around 6.7%.
Thankfully, the Brexit Party can offset this loss with the £31,700 they pocketed from the £100 fees paid to the party by the 317 candidates who were then stood down in Conservative-held seats.
