Brexit Party conference tour venue received £1m EU funding

Can you spot a Tory election lie?

Take the Lie Detector

A venue that is hosting a Brexit Party conference event in September received £1 million of EU funding, it has been revealed.

According to Doncaster Free Press, Doncaster Racecourse received £1 million of EU funding in 2008, as part of a £820 million project to develop businesses and communities in South Yorkshire.

Nigel Farage is hosting the event in September as part of the party’s ‘Make Britain Stronger’ tour in which supporters will pay £5 to hear talks from prospective parliamentary candidates and MEPs about how terrible the EU is.

But the very centre that will host this ritual moaning directly benefitted from the EU. The £1 million fund for the racecourse was used for “supporting the racecourse’s conference and exhibition facilities”.

This is not the first time Farage has benefited from the EU-funded conference centre. In 2015, when was leader of UKIP, Farage also held a conference at the racecourse.

It seems that when it comes to the EU, Farage – like Boris – wants to have his cake and eat it.
