Boris Johnson says he has never told a lie in his political career. That is a lie

In an ironic twist befitting of this bizarre general election, Boris Johnson has told a journalist that he has never lied in his political career. Which is, itself, a lie.

An ITV News journalist asked Johnson: “can you look me in the eye, and tell me that you’ve never lied in your political career?”

Never one to pass up the opportunity to brazenly mislead a journalist, Johnson dutifully responded: “Absolutely not. Absolutely not. I’ve never tried to deceive the public.”

He then carried on to say: “I may have got things wrong, and I may have been mistaken, but I’ve never tried to deceive people about the way I see things.”

Of course, it’s difficult to know for sure whether Johnson is a habitual liar, or whether he’s just blindingly stupid.

However, in October, the Prime Minister made 12 porkies in a single day, and we seriously doubt that Johnson can be so regularly wrong on so many things, without it being a conscious strategy.

Johnson’s deception campaign is carefully planned to fool as many people as possible. But can you spot a Tory lie? Take our quiz to find out.
