Uproar after shocking BBC Panorama investigation reveals government’s PPE stockpiling failures

People are in uproar after a BBC investigation revealed the government failed to properly stockpile for a pandemic.

BBC Panorama last night revealed that the government had failed to stockpile crucial items of protective equipment (PPE), in case of a pandemic. In fact, there were no gowns, visors, swabs or body bags in the government’s pandemic stockpile when coronavirus reached the UK.

Panorama further revealed that the government ignored warnings from advisers to buy more equipment, after the stockpile was set up in 2009.

This comes after the government yesterday admitted that over 100 NHS staff and care workers had died of COVID-19.

One of the doctors who passed away, consultant urologist Abdul Mabud Chowdhury, had appealed to the government for “appropriate PPE and remedies” to “protect ourselves and our families” five days before being admitted to hospital.

Now, his son is calling for a public apology from the government.

The government has failed us all. But, most importantly, it has failed frontline NHS workers busting a gut to keep us all alive.
